Using my Granny to get new business
Not normal practice, right?
But after reading about a recent funding for a flying taxi business, which has elevated it to a $1b+ valuation, I had to find a way to reach out to them on behalf of one of Wayout’s clients.
After a conversation with my Granny last week and telling her about the flying taxis, she dropped her knitting and nearly fell off the rocking chair.
“It’s the devil’s work, you’d never get me in one of things”.
And that was the hook I needed!
I’m a big fan of tongue in cheek emails as you can see from the one’s I’ve sent here for Wayout, and I love engaging with people on a human level trying to get them to sit up, smile and give them a reason to reply.
So, I got to work and crafted a cheeky little email to the Vice President of Marketing & Comms for the flying taxi company and told him about the conversation I’d had with my Granny, and to market something that’s never been marketed before, must be a challenge, especially as they’re a service for everyone, and my Granny isn’t the only sceptic out there.
The email was engaging, to the point, and simply told a story which I hoped he’d appreciate, whilst closing it off with a simple offer of help, should he be looking. And thankfully he replied saying he loved the approach and asked to set up a call to talk more.
New business isn’t about teaching Granny to suck eggs, but it does need a little creativity, fun and a great story behind it.
So, if your emails and communications are falling on deaf ears, and you need some ‘Granny’ in your approach, then go on, check us out here and drop us a line.
